In this sermon we talk about nature (birds, lilies, trees) as thin places where we sense God’s presence, a place where the veil between heaven and earth seems a little more see through and God a little more present. We consider what Wendell Berry’s reflection on trees has to teach us in this, and how a quote from a poet helped me understand why God seems more present in nature. We close with a reflection from the desert fathers and mothers (and the movie Contact) about what it means to detach from the world for the sake of better embracing it.
